I think we all start to hate where we live after we are there for awhile. We start to resent it, but in my case, I mostly resent the crappy people and bad experiences. I catch myself thinking about all the amazing experiences I could have somewhere else, and by doing that I miss out on appreciating the experiences where I am. The people can be the worst, but they can be the best.

Traveling as much as I do has taught me that everything looks more wonderful than it actually is when you are an outsider or just passing through to visit. Every small town and big city has friend groups with their own sets of problems. Everyone who lives anywhere feels lonely. The feeling doesn’t go away just because you move somewhere else. It might temporarily subside in a new place until you aren’t an outsider anymore. People who seem awesome can turn out to be the worst people you have ever met, and people who you would never have thought of being friends with can end up being the people you find yourself staying up all night with and taking road trips to cities you have never been to. The guys and girls in new places will break your heart just as much as the guys and girls from where you are from have. There will be people who will dislike you any place you go.

I want to leave here, but not because of the people. I appreciate people, even the ones I can’t stand. I want to leave here because I want to be lonely in a new place. I want to appreciate more people than I already do. I want to make new mistakes. I want to meet more shitty people and be surprised by more great ones.
